The first pediatric surgical department in a maternity hospital: where to give birth safely

In Kyiv, Ukraine’s largest perinatal center has opened its first pediatric surgery department. The center’s director, Dmytro Gavseev, spoke about this in an interview with the Komersant Ukrainsky channel .
According to him, this is the first time such a department has been operating directly in a maternity hospital.
“This is the first pediatric surgery department in a maternity hospital. There has never been anything like this before. We created it, and it is working. We have achieved great results. There are situations that can be called ‘the third miracle’. These are situations where a child is born with a congenital defect and would not be able to live without surgical correction. This applies to defects in the development of the anterior abdominal wall and defects in the development of the heart. And this is the most difficult to diagnose today – a heart defect – which we are successfully treating in our department and with the surgical specialists of the Heart Institute,” he said.
According to the doctor, the Perinatal Center in the capital currently accounts for almost half of all births in Kyiv. At the same time, the Center accepts patients from all over the country and works with the most complex cases.

The center also has a pediatric gynecology department and provides medical care from pregnancy preparation to childbirth.
It should be noted that for several years in a row, more boys than girls have been born in Ukraine.
