The world’s first drone air defense: Nemesis regiment shoots down 60 Shahed and Gerber drones

In March and April 2025, the 412th separate regiment of Nemesis unmanned systems destroyed 60 enemy Shahed and Gerbera attack drones. This is stated in the regiment’s post on social media. According to the unit, 24 enemy targets were intercepted in March and 36 in April.
To do this, the regiment used experimental interceptor drones. The cost of one such drone is $5000. For comparison, the approximate cost of a Shahed attack drone is $150,000 and a Gerbera is $10,000. The cost of a missile, which is usually used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to intercept Russian drones, is about $1 million. In this configuration, the Ukrainian drone interceptor becomes a much cheaper means of countering attacks.
“Ukraine is the first country in the world to destroy reconnaissance and strike UAVs using interceptor drones. In 2022-2023, strike drones compensated for the lack of artillery, and as of 2025, this capability ensures 75% of the damage to enemy forces and assets. In 2024, attack drones began to shoot down enemy reconnaissance UAVs, and in 2025 we began to shoot down strategic attack drones such as Shahed. Ukrainian drones for a few thousand in the professional hands of our fighters can not only preserve infrastructure, but also save expensive air defense equipment,” commented Artem Bielenkov, Chief of Staff of the 412th Airborne Brigade of the Nemesis.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has already launched more than 22,400 Shahed and Gerbera attack drones into Ukraine. According to the GUR, the enemy plans to launch up to 500 UAVs simultaneously.
The Nemesis regiment was created in early 2024. In December of the same year, it was reorganized and a new large-scale recruitment was announced. This unit specializes in the search and destruction of valuable military equipment, headquarters, and complex positions of the Russian army 40 kilometers inland and beyond.
