Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has announced the temporary suspension of the first deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Mykola Povoroznyk, for the period of investigation into the incident regarding the possible celebration of his birthday on the Day of Mourning on April 25.

Klitschko announced this on his Telegram channel, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“I have decided to investigate the alleged ‘celebration’. I am not going to cover up for anyone,” the mayor emphasized.

He also noted that the procedure for appointing and dismissing the first deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration is clearly regulated by law, and despite the pressure, he does not intend to violate it.

Klitschko has already signed a deputy’s appeal regarding Povoroznyk and stated that the initiators of the relevant decision from among the Kyiv City Council members will be involved in the investigation. As a reminder, on June 10, the Kyiv City Council expressed no confidence in Povoroznyk after a journalistic investigation was published about the alleged celebration of his birthday on the day of citywide mourning.

What happened on April 25

On the night of April 24, Kyiv came under rocket fire: cruise and ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones hit the city. Twelve people were killed. The next day, a Day of Mourning was declared in the capital.

On the same day, according to Informer, Povoroznyk allegedly gathered colleagues to celebrate his birthday on communal property and during working hours.

After the article was published, Povoroznyk denied all the accusations, calling the investigation a “dirty manipulation.” He assured that there was no celebration, music, gifts, or fun, only “dinner with colleagues and socializing.”
