The first snow will come this week: the forecaster named the dates

This week, Ukrainians are expecting the first snow, but we should not rush to rejoice at the beginning of winter. The head of the meteorological forecasting department at the Ukrhydrometcenter Natalia Golenya said in a commentary to "Komersant Ukrainian" that wet snow will fall on November 13-14, but it is unlikely to last or create a stable snow cover.

“There will be snow on November 13-14, but it will be wet snow, maybe rain. But it’s not much at all. It doesn’t mean that the snow cover will last. The situation is more or less the same in Kyiv and Ukraine,” the forecaster said.

Natalia Golenya notes that the reason for possible snowfall is not strong atmospheric fronts, but a specific altitude situation. In particular, the weather conditions will contribute to the formation of light precipitation in the atmosphere.

“It’s not to say that these will be such active atmospheric fronts, but the altitude situation is such that something can fly over,” she adds.

Temperature indicators during this period will favor the formation of wet snow. According to the forecaster, the daytime temperature will fluctuate between 1 and 8°C, and at night it may drop to -3°C, which will create conditions for short-term cooling.

“There will be wet snow, because the daytime temperature will be between 1-6, 3-8 degrees Celsius. And at night: from 3 degrees Celsius to 3 degrees Celsius, sometimes if it clears up, it will be minus, which will add to the temperature,” explains Golenya.

As for prolonged snowfalls that could bring real winter weather, the forecaster noted that there are no such prospects yet. No full-fledged snow is forecast for the next week.

Thus, it is too early to expect snow-covered streets and stable snow cover. The wet snow in mid-November will only remind Ukrainians of the approaching winter, but it will not be its full-fledged beginning.
