Andriy Novak

Andriy Yaremovych Novak is a Ukrainian economist, scholar, political scientist, and public figure; he is the author of economic studies and publications and has been actively involved in Ukraine’s political processes.

Biography and Education

Andriy Novak was born on January 24, 1973, in Kolomyia, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. He received his higher education at the European University in Kyiv. He also studied at the business school of the University of Western Ontario in Canada, where he participated in a work-study program.

From 1997 to 2001, he pursued graduate studies at the Research Institute of Finance under the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine. He defended his master’s thesis at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The topic of his research focused on the interaction between fiscal and monetary policy in the context of Ukraine’s economic growth.

Professional Experience

He began his career in the private sector, working at the company “Standard-95.” Subsequently, for several years, he worked as a commercial agent for television programs on Ukrainian television.

In 1998, he entered politics as an advisor to a political party on media and PR matters during the parliamentary elections. In 2002, he ran for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as an independent candidate in one of the single-member districts.

That same year, he assumed the position of head of the financial department at the state-owned enterprise “Ukroboronpostachalnik” under the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Later, he worked as a consultant to committees of the Verkhovna Rada and as an assistant to a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Since 2004, he has headed the public relations department of the company “Obolon.”
In 2005–2006, he served as an economic advisor to Ukrainian Prime Ministers Yulia Tymoshenko and Yuriy Yekhanurov.

From 2006 to 2010, he headed the Economic Council of the All-Ukrainian public organization “Successful Ukraine.”
In 2010, he became chairman of the Committee of Economists of Ukraine.
In 2011, he was elected vice-rector of the European University.

Academic and Public Writing

In 2006, Andriy Novak published the book “How to Revive the Ukrainian Economy,” in which he presented his own economic concept for the country’s development—the so-called three-functional economic model of Ukraine. The book was reprinted in 2007 and 2011.

He also initiated the creation of the Alternative Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and headed the organizing committee of the Economic Forum of Ukrainians Worldwide.

Political Activities

In 2012, he was elected chairman of the Ukrainian Party at its congress, but his party membership was terminated in 2013. Later, he was a member of the “PATRIOT” party.

In 2014, he ran for the Kyiv City Council as a candidate for the European Party of Ukraine.
In 2019, he ran in the Ukrainian presidential election as a candidate for the “PATRIOT” party.
