“Pixel” is not canceled: Ukrainian Armed Forces to test new MM-25 camouflage pattern

5 August 10:43

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has officially announced the approval of a new version of the MM-25 camouflage pattern, which will complement the current “pixel” (MM-14), rather than replace it. This decision was made back in June 2025 at the request of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and in response to numerous requests from the military , "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing the Ministry of Defense.

What is changing

The new MM-25 camouflage pattern will be used for the manufacture of military equipment, but as an additional pattern, similar to existing options such as “olive”, “coyote” and MM-16F. It is not being introduced as a mandatory or single pattern – currently, it is a limited implementation and trial batches.

“The decision to approve the new camouflage pattern was made due to numerous requests from servicemen who perform combat missions and already use a similar pattern. Currently, the only option for them was to purchase such equipment at their own expense,” explained Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Kayola, head of the Central Logistics Development Department (CDMD).

Start of implementation

The Ministry of Defense’s procurement agency DOT has already announced tenders for the first batches of products under the new pattern. In 2025, it is planned to purchase 20,000 items of clothing for practical testing. These are clothes that will meet the updated Technical Specification A01XJ.29979-539:2025 (02).

“We have initiated procurement for five items that fall under these updated standards. Our goal is to ensure that the military receive clothing that meets their real needs, and that manufacturers are able to fulfill these orders in a quality manner,” said Mykyta Chichkan, Director of the DOT clothing program.

The Center has already received more than 10 requests from suppliers who want to familiarize themselves with the new pattern and start working according to the updated standards.

Why it is necessary

The military has repeatedly complained about the lack of camouflage that works better in specific landscapes or combat zones. Some of them have already used similar patterns, buying equipment at their own expense. Approval of MM-25 allows us to officially provide the troops with this equipment and expands the capabilities of domestic manufacturers who already have the technology to print in this range.

What’s next

After analyzing the first batches, a decision will be made on a larger-scale implementation. But the Ministry of Defense already emphasizes: “No one is canceling the pixel. It is only a matter of expanding the possibilities for adapting the equipment to the needs of the front line.
