During the heating season, Russian shelling damaged more than 9 GW of generating capacity at thermal power plants, combined heat and power plants, and hydroelectric power plants. At the same time, Ukrainian energy officials have restored more than 4 GW of capacity.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a statement by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, approximately 85% of the available capacity of thermal power plants and 66% of the capacity of hydroelectric and pumped-storage power plants that were put out of service as a result of the attacks have been restored.
It is also noted that Ukraine has repaired transmission system transformer equipment with a total capacity of about 30% of the power grid’s total transformer capacity.
In 2025, scheduled repairs with a total capacity of 11.8 GW were also completed, which, according to the agency’s assessment, allowed the country to get through the heating season without disruption.
Shmyhal also reported on the development of distributed generation. Over the year, the increase in installed capacity amounted to 642.77 MW, and energy storage facilities with a total capacity of 508 MW were commissioned. This significantly exceeds the figures from the previous season.
In addition, domestic gas production in 2025 amounted to 16.97 billion cubic meters, which is higher than previous forecasts. Production in the private sector also increased by more than 14%.
