Instagram taxes in 2026: what bloggers need to know

5 February 11:35

Almost every Ukrainian blogger who monetizes their content on Instagram realizes that declaring income and working openly is much safer than waiting for a call from the tax service. With increased control over digital income, the issue of legalizing earnings on social media is becoming not only financial but also social. The press service of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine explained how bloggers’ income is taxed, citing a real-life example, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

A blogger’s story: how income legalization works in practice

The Ministry of Finance told the story of 41-year-old Viktoria, the author of a popular Instagram blog. Thanks to advertising Ukrainian and foreign brands, she earns about 70,000 hryvnia per month, or approximately 840,000 hryvnia per year.

To work legally, the blogger registered as a third-group individual entrepreneur. This format allows her to officially provide advertising services, enter into contracts with foreign companies, and receive payments from abroad.

“Registration as an individual entrepreneur allows you to officially receive income, pay taxes, and enjoy all the benefits of legal entrepreneurial activity,” explained the Ministry of Finance.

How bloggers pay taxes

Victoria submits a tax return every quarter through the My Tax app and pays the specified taxes on time. This approach not only protects her from fines but also creates a transparent financial history.

The Ministry of Finance emphasizes that receiving payments to a personal bank card, in cash, or in cryptocurrency without declaring them is, in fact, tax evasion.

Why tax evasion is not only a problem for the state

The ministry emphasizes that undeclared income has broader consequences than it seems at first glance. In such cases:

  • the state loses funds for the army, in particular for ammunition and equipment;
  • educational institutions and preschools have fewer resources for normal functioning;
  • social insurance funds are not replenished, and therefore, the blogger himself will not be able to count on sick leave, pension, or other social benefits if necessary.

Legalizing income on social media is not only about complying with the law, but also about responsibility to society and one’s own financial security.

Registering as a sole proprietor and paying taxes allows bloggers to develop their activities with peace of mind, scale up their cooperation with brands, and avoid risks in the future.
