Pokrovsk under Russian attack: what is known about the fighting

Urban fighting continues in Pokrovsk as Russian units that have infiltrated certain areas of the city try to gain a foothold, but the Ukrainian defense is holding. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the situation in the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration remains difficult but under control. Why has Pokrovsk become a new epicenter of the war?

The military telegram channel “Officer” also confirms the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Dobropole direction, but notes that Pokrovsk remains the hottest spot.

DIU in Pokrovsk: Special Forces at the hottest spot
Military correspondent Andriy Tsapliyenko reported that special forces of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine have arrived in Pokrovsk to strengthen the city’s defense.
The situation is becoming critical. The DIU special forces were sent there. They are already acting together with the Armed Forces units, performing combat missions, eliminating enemy subversive groups in the city. Their goal is to prevent the occupation of Pokrovsk,” Tsaplienko said

What Russian military officials say
Russian military telegram channels are spreading a wave of panic about the situation in Pokrovsk, claiming that the occupiers are allegedly “entrenched” in residential areas of the city and “encircled” Ukrainian units. The propagandists are trying to recreate the information picture of the time of the battle for Bakhmut, when any local breakthrough was presented as a strategic victory.

Ukrainian sources confirm that small arms battles are taking place in Pokrovsk with enemy groups trying to infiltrate the city. However, the General Staff emphasizes that the occupiers do not fully control any area, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to hold the line and conduct sweeps.
Russian propagandists are actively quoting Ukrainian and Western media, distorting the content of their reports. In particular, they state that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are deploying elite units to Pokrovsk and that the task is to drive the Russian military out of the city. The Kotsnews Telegram channel adds a manipulative conclusion.

Such wording is a classic Russian propaganda scheme: to overstate the “successes” of its troops, devalue Ukrainian forces and at the same time sow distrust in the Armed Forces command.
Let me remind you that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied the Kremlin’s statement about the alleged encirclement of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers near Kupiansk and Pokrovsk.
This is a complete lie. And not the first one. The goal is to cause panic and create the impression that Russia is winning the war,” Zelensky said.

Despite Russian propaganda attempts to create the effect of a “second Bakhmut,” Pokrovsk remains Ukrainian. The enemy is losing hundreds of men and equipment every day, without a strategic breakthrough. Ukrainian paratroopers, artillerymen and GUR special forces are holding the line and gradually driving the occupiers out of the city. And Russian statements about the “encirclement” are an information operation designed to break the morale of Ukrainians and convince the West that “Ukraine is losing Donbas. ” But in reality, Pokrovsk is still standing. And this is another line where the Russian army is being stopped.
