Police reminded the rules of New Year’s Eve celebration: what is strictly prohibited
31 December 22:40
On New Year’s Eve, the use of fireworks and firecrackers is prohibited throughout Ukraine. However, citizens are only allowed to use firecrackers and sparklers. This was announced by Victoria Ponomaryova, deputy head of the Communications Department of the National Police of Ukraine, during a telethon, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Why is there a ban on pyrotechnics?
According to the police representative, Ukraine has legal restrictions on the circulation and use of pyrotechnics. They were introduced for reasons of public safety and apply without territorial exceptions.
“The law of Ukraine prohibits the use of salutes, fireworks and firecrackers. The ban is permanent and binding throughout the country. At the same time, the use of sparklers and firecrackers is allowed,” Ponomaryova emphasized.
What is the responsibility for violations?
Persons who launch fireworks or other pyrotechnics despite the ban may be held both administratively and criminally liable.
In particular, such actions may be qualified as hooliganism (Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). In this case, the penalty is a fine of UAH 17,000 to 34,000.
Also, violation of the rules of silence and protection of the population from the harmful effects of noise may be punishable under Article 182 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses. For citizens, this means a warning or a fine of UAH 85 to 255, and for officials and individual entrepreneurs – from UAH 255 to 510.
The curfew remains unchanged
Separately, the police emphasized that there will be no relaxation or abolition of the curfew on New Year’s Eve.
Law enforcement officials urge citizens to adhere to the established restrictions and not to endanger themselves or others.
