Police are looking for a “seer” who promised to find a missing soldier for 70 thousand

A resident of Kolomyia lost 70 thousand hryvnias to a fraudster posing as a clairvoyant. The offender convinced the victim that she could help find her military husband, who had stopped contacting her. This is reported on the website of the Main Department of the National Police in Ivano-Frankivsk region, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs

“According to the 32-year-old victim, after independent attempts to find at least some news about her husband, who went missing during the fighting, she turned to a ‘clairvoyant’. The applicant found her on a social network. The fraudster promised to help locate her husband with the help of allegedly magical rituals,” the statement said.

The pseudo-magician demanded 70 thousand hryvnias for her “services”. Hoping to get at least some information, the victim agreed to pay. After receiving the money, the fraudster stopped contacting her. Only later did the woman realize that she had been deceived and contacted the police.

Law enforcement officers opened a criminal proceeding under Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – fraud. Measures are currently underway to identify the fraudster and find other victims.

The police also reminds:

  • do not trust strangers with whom you communicate online or meet for the first time;
  • avoid contact with fortune tellers and psychics;
  • get information only from official sources.

The police added that the Center for the Search for Missing Persons in Special Circumstances operates under the Main Department of the National Police of Ivano-Frankivsk Region.
