SBU reserve colonel warns of possible Russian attack from Belarus

SBU reserve colonel Mykhailo Prytula, a military counterintelligence specialist, suggested that Russia may be planning an attack from the territory of Belarus. He said this in a programme on the Espresso TV channel , reports "Komersant Ukrainian"

Mikhail Prytula said that Belarusian forces are concentrated in the Gomel region, which has a well-developed transport infrastructure. This means that a large number of military echelons can be delivered there.

“If you look at the maps of the Russian invasion, you can see that there were no attacks from that direction. However, if you look at the map released by Kirill Budanov on 21 November 2021, you can see that this direction was considered as a possible target for a strike, although there was no attack from it,” Prytula explained.

According to Prytula, Russia is probably preparing for an attack from Belarusian territory.

“The Russian Federation is creating a bridgehead for the transfer of troops to attack in the direction of Zhytomyr, Berdychiv, Vinnytsia, Kryzhopol, and then to launch a counterattack from Transnistria. The Russians probably have such plans. And Lukashenka either shows that there may be a strike from that direction or does not control this process. Because the Belarusian army is not enough to carry out such an operation,” Prytula said.

It should be noted that Belarusians are concentrating their troops near Ukraine: according to the monitoring group Belaruski Gayun, at least a thousand soldiers have been deployed to the Gomel region bordering Ukraine. Wagnerites have been spotted there. The head of the Centre for Military Legal Studies , Oleksandr Musienko, in an exclusive commentary for "Komersant Ukrainian" spoke about weapons that can reach even Kyiv.

Earlier, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, said that the threat of the Russian occupation forces attacking Ukraine from the north is absolutely real. The tendency is to escalate, so the problem cannot be ignored. However, he did not specify where exactly the enemy troops might come from.
