The first meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish President Karol Navrotskyy is scheduled for Friday, December 19, in Warsaw. This was reported in the office of the Polish leader, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing DW.
“Details of the planned visit are currently being finalized. The main topics of the talks to be held in Warsaw will be security, economic and historical issues,” Polish Presidential Spokesman Rafal Leskiewicz said on social media site X. According to him, this meeting was proposed to Kyiv by the Polish side.
The day before, Zelenskyy also announced a possible visit to Warsaw. “We are very grateful to Poland for its support. This is a very important good neighborhood for us. And as for my visit to Poland: the Polish side has offered us Friday. I think we will not postpone anything,” he said during an online conversation with journalists on December 14.
Poland reproached Zelenskyy with a “crown”
At the end of September, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga announced Navrotsky’s visit to Kyiv. Ukraine’s Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar also announced that a meeting of the leaders was being prepared. However, in late October, the Polish president’s office said that Zelenskyy should go to Warsaw himself if he wanted to meet with Navrotsky. Navrotsky himself later said that he expected Ukraine to show gratitude and symmetry in relations, but also said that he was waiting for Zelenskyy in Warsaw.
on December 5, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that “the crown would not have fallen off President Zelensky if he had asked for a visit to the Presidential Palace while passing through Poland.”
