Poland may transfer up to nine Soviet-style MiG fighter jets to Ukraine to strengthen its defense against Russian aggression. The parties are currently agreeing on the technical details of a possible deal.

This was announced by Polish Deputy Minister of Defense Paweł Zalewski in an interview with public broadcaster TVP, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, the initial delivery may include “less than ten” MiG aircraft. These are Soviet-era aircraft that are nearing the end of their service life in the Polish Air Force.

In December 2025, the Polish military command reported on discussions of a potential deal under which Poland could receive Ukrainian-developed drone technology in exchange for fighter jets. Zalewski noted that Warsaw is awaiting a formal response from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, but, according to him, Kyiv has generally agreed to accept the proposal.

“Discussions are ongoing, these are entirely technical issues,” he said.

Earlier, another Polish Deputy Defense Minister, Cezary Tomczyk, said that “six to eight” MiG aircraft in the Polish army are nearing the end of their service life and could be transferred to Ukraine as part of an agreement on the exchange of military technology.

Poland has already transferred tanks, artillery, and ammunition to Ukraine. The possible transfer of fighter jets will mark a new stage in military aid from Warsaw.
