Polish authorities have decided to close the Russian Consulate General in Krakow. This was announced by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski on the X network, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

He justified the decision by the availability of evidence that Russian special services organized a sabotage in a shopping center in Warsaw last year.

“Due to the evidence that the Russian special services committed a shameful act of sabotage against the shopping center on Marivilska Street, I have decided to withdraw my consent to the activities of the Russian Federation’s consulate in Krakow,” Sikorski wrote on the social network X.

It has not yet been announced when the consulate will cease to operate.

The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized the decision of the Polish side and promised a response. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, quoted by Russian state news agencies, said that Poland “continues to deliberately destroy” relations with Moscow with this decision.

on May 11, Polish authorities officially accused Russian intelligence services of setting fire to a shopping center in Warsaw in May 2024.

Polish investigators found out that the large-scale fire in the Marywilska shopping center was ordered by Russian special services. Some of the perpetrators have already been detained, while others have been identified and are being searched for. It is known that the arson was coordinated by a person based in Russia.

In October 2024, Poland closed the Russian Consulate in Poznan after Russia attempted to commit sabotage on Polish territory.
