MP and journalist Serhiy Shvets dies

After a long struggle with a serious illness, Ukrainian MP Serhiy Shvets, a representative of the Servant of the People faction, has died. This was reported on Telegram by the head of the faction, David Arakhamia, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“After a long struggle with a serious illness, our colleague, MP Serhiy Shvets, died. We offer our sincere condolences to Serhiy’s family, we share the pain of losing a loved one,” he said.

Arakhamia emphasized that Serhiy Shvets had gone from a journalist to a lawmaker and left behind a memory of an honest, decent and principled person.

Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk also expressed his condolences.

In a post on Facebook , he remembered Shvets as a journalist who “knew how to speak to people simply and honestly” and as a deputy who “was not afraid to ask uncomfortable questions – both on the air and in the parliamentary hall.”

According to Stefanchuk, Shvets remained a man with a sincere heart and an understanding of why he entered politics.

Serhiy Shvets was born in 1976. He worked in the field of cultural, economic, military and political journalism on 1 1, STB, and ICTV TV channels.

He was engaged in cultural, economic, military and political journalism.

In 2019, he was elected as a Member of Parliament in the 214th constituency in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv as a non-partisan candidate from the Servant of the People party. He served as Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech.
