More than 30 thousand Bratslav Hasidim take part in mass prayer in Uman: live broadcast

22 September 11:58

Today, on September 22, on the eve of the new Jewish year of Rosh Hashanah, Bratslav Hasidism communities around the world began the Tikkun Aklali prayer. In Uman, almost 30 thousand pilgrims are praying at the same time. Iryna Rybnytska, executive director of the Historical and Cultural Center of Uman, told Kommersant Ukrainsky in an exclusive commentary.

“Today at noon, on September 22, the Tikkun a-Klali prayer began in the area of the Bratslav Hasidim pilgrimage in Uman,” Rybnytska said.

According to the organizers, as of 8 a.m., more than 30,000 pilgrims have already registered, and their number is expected to grow throughout the day. The celebration of Rosh Hashanah will officially begin in the evening.

At noon, the pilgrims gathered near the grave of Rabbi Nachman and repeat the prayer, which is heard from loudspeakers on the streets of the neighborhood. During the prayer, the pilgrims read texts from the 10 Psalms of King David: their reading is considered an atonement for sin.

“The prayer takes place simultaneously in all Bratslav Hasidic communities, both in Uman and in Israel and other countries. Tikkun Klavi is a universal correction of the soul through the reading of ten specific psalms. This practice is of particular importance on Rosh Hashanah, when, according to Hasidic belief, the tzaddik can intercede for the souls of pilgrims at the Heavenly Court,” Rybnytska said.

She noted that starting in 2022, with the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Hasidim who come to Uman also include in their prayer meetings requests for peace in Ukraine.

“Pilgrims believe that their prayers will bring peace to Ukraine,” said Iryna Rybnytska, executive director of the Uman Historical and Cultural Center

This year, Jews will celebrate Rosh Hashanah from the evening of October 22 until the evening of October 24. This day marks the beginning of the days of the new Jewish year.

The celebration of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, will begin in the evening.

“The Tikkun Aklali was discovered and passed on to the world by the great and holy righteous man Rabbi Nachman of Braslav. “The Tikkun HaKlali consists of 10 psalms (16, 32, 41, 42, 59, 77, 90, 105, 137, 150) of the book of Tehillim of King David, and it is the root of the entire book.
The prayer is intended for any person: men and women; adults and children. Recited aloud, consistently, without interruption if possible, and at any time of the day, it helps, as the name implies, in any difficulty, in any area, in any situation.
