More than 38,000 military families in Ukraine are still waiting for housing. Only 706 families have received apartments over the past year. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine provided an official response to the request of the [Kommersant] regarding the provision of housing for military personnel. The document contains up-to-date statistics as of August 2025, as well as information on the funding of government programs.

How many servicemen are waiting for housing

According to the Central Department of Engineering and Infrastructure Support of the Logistics Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of August 2025, 38,746 military families are on the housing register.

This data reflects the overall need for housing for the military and their families who are on the waiting list for state provision.

Who received housing in 2024-2025

The Ministry of Defense notes that housing has been provided in the recent period, but the pace remains modest.
In particular:

  • in 2024, 471 military families received housing,
  • in the first half of 2025 – another 235 families.

In total, 706 families have received housing over the past year and a half.

In his response, the acting head of the Central Department of Engineering and Infrastructure Support of the Logistics Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.

“In 2024-2025, 706 families of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were provided with housing,” Volodymyr Yaremenko

What programs are in place in 2025

The Ministry of Defense confirms that in 2025 the budget program 2101190 “Construction (purchase) of housing for the Armed Forces of Ukraine” will continue to operate .

This year’s funding for this program is UAH 104 million.

The document emphasizes:

“The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine plans to provide housing for the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in accordance with the budget program… UAH 104 million has been allocated from the state budget of Ukraine for these purposes in 2025.”

The problem remains acute

Despite the funding and implementation of the programs, the problem of providing housing for servicemen remains one of the most acute. More than 38 thousand families are still waiting for apartments.

This means that the pace of housing provision lags far behind the actual needs, as just over two hundred military families were able to get housing in the first half of 2025 alone.
