Caught by IPSO: Head of the Energy Research Centre spreads lies about “burnt transformers” at PSPs

In the morning, on 18 July, the director of the Energy Research Centre, Oleksandr Kharchenko, issued a statement that three current transformers had allegedly “burned down in three days at the South Ukrainian NPP, which led to a deterioration in the power situation”. Energoatom denied this information, and the Energy Ministry called it an IPSO, reports [Kommersant].
“There was an accident at the South Ukrainian NPP”. This is a lie: the failure of power transformers at the South Ukrainian NPP caused the shutdown of nuclear power units. This information is spread by propaganda Telegram channels. The truth: once again, the Russian IPSO suggests possible problems with Westinghouse’s US nuclear fuel at Ukrainian nuclear power plants,” the energy company said.
Energoatom added that “Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, in particular the South Ukrainian NPP, operate without technical violations and in normal mode”.
The Ministry of Energy, in turn, called the information about the “burnt transformers at the South Ukrainian NPP” a Russian IPSO.
“I would like to note that the information disseminated in the media by various experts is in fact to some extent an IPSO and plays into the hands of the enemy. After all, the disclosure of such information is, firstly, quite negative, and secondly, this information is obtained in various unclear ways. I would like to note that the operation of the power system is currently stabilising quite quickly, and if there are any emergencies, they are unforeseen situations,” said Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk during a telethon answering a question about the South Ukrainian NPP.
Meanwhile, Russian Telegram channels did indeed start spreading information about the alleged “failure of the last operating unit at the South Ukrainian NPP” on 16 July.

Some Russian channels stated that it was “allegedly from the wife of a station employee”.

Further, the nature of the massive dissemination of this fake news on the Russian Telegram may indicate the planned work of the Russian ISIS aimed at further destabilising the Ukrainian population through the existing energy crisis in the country.
