US Ambassador to NATO does not rule out Zelenskyy attending Trump-Putin summit

US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker has suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may take part in a summit between the United States and Russia.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Clash Report.

It should be noted that on August 15, US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin will meet in Alaska, which will directly address the topic of the war in Ukraine.

In this regard, the CNN anchor asked Whitaker if it was possible that Zelensky would also be in Alaska.

“Yes, I think it’s quite possible. You know, of course, there can’t be any agreement that all the parties involved don’t agree with. And you know, of course, it’s very important to bring this war to an end,” the ambassador said.

He added that Trump’s direct involvement in this issue “brings us closer to peace.”

Vitaker also noted that Ukraine and Russia are already negotiating (meaning three rounds in Istanbul), and have exchanged prisoners and bodies.

“If we manage to conclude an agreement on terms that suit both sides, it will save thousands of lives. And in the end, I think it’s at least worth trying to find out if there is a chance to make it happen,” he summarized.

What preceded it

As a reminder, on Wednesday, August 6, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Moscow to meet with Putin.

Shortly afterward, it was reported that a meeting between the US leader and the Kremlin head was possible next week. On Friday, Trump announced that the meeting would take place, and it would be held on August 15 in Alaska.
