U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker said that Ukraine will not give up large areas that were not won on the battlefield, but stressed the importance of diplomatic efforts to end the war.

He said this in a commentary to CNN, Clash Report informs, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Whitaker emphasized that he perceives President Zelensky’s comments as a confirmation of this approach. He added that the current war must end to save thousands of lives.

“The communication from both sides through President Trump’s meeting in Alaska on Friday with one or both sides of the conflict is exciting. And I think President Trump is really the only one who can do that,” the ambassador said.

He also called Donald Trump a peacemaker who recently facilitated a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, settling their long-standing conflict.

Whitaker believes that Trump is best equipped to help the parties reach an agreement and stop the bloodshed.
