Trade potential between Uzbekistan and Ukraine: key indicators

9 February 00:21

Ukraine exports more goods to Uzbekistan than Uzbekistan exports to Ukraine.

This was stated in an interview with Gazeta by Alexander Sirenko, Uzbekistan’s chargé d’affaires in Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, the final data on trade between the two countries for 2025 will be available soon, but statistics for the first nine months of 2025 are already available.

“Our trade turnover amounted to $235.2 million. Ukraine’s exports to Uzbekistan amounted to $138 million, while imports from Uzbekistan amounted to $97.2 million. The balance is $41 million in our favor,” Sirenko said.

For comparison: in 2024, trade turnover amounted to $277 million, in 2023 — $335 million, and the peak was in 2021 — $735 million. Thus, with the establishment of a just peace in Ukraine, there are great opportunities for recovery and growth.

“The main problem with our trade turnover is logistics. Before the war, a significant part of supplies went through Russia. Currently, our trade routes pass through the Caspian Sea, which has led to a 4-5-fold increase in logistics costs. This hinders the growth of trade, although its potential is very significant,” the official concluded.
