A powerful geomagnetic storm has hit Earth: how to minimize its impact on your health

23 March 07:57

On Monday, March 23, increased solar activity was recorded on Earth. According to space weather monitoring data, the magnetic storm reached a K-index of 5, which corresponds to strong geomagnetic disturbances. This was reported by Meteoagent, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian"

How strong is the magnetic storm?

According to the forecast, the geomagnetic storm has a K-index of 5, corresponding to a high-intensity magnetic storm (red level).

Experts note that such activity may affect the well-being of weather-sensitive individuals.

By March 24, solar activity will decrease slightly to approximately 4 on the K-index, corresponding to a moderate-intensity magnetic storm (yellow level).

What is a magnetic storm?

Magnetic storms occur due to powerful solar flares and so-called coronal mass ejections—streams of charged particles and magnetic fields that reach Earth and affect its magnetosphere.

It is precisely these phenomena that can cause a deterioration in well-being among weather-sensitive people.

Experts note that magnetic storm warnings are important for managing the risks of cardiovascular disease.

“Magnetic storm warnings help manage risk factors for heart attacks and strokes in the days leading up to such solar events,” experts note.

How a magnetic storm can affect your well-being

During periods of strong magnetic storms, people often complain of:

  • headaches;
  • fatigue and drowsiness;
  • irritability;
  • decreased concentration;
  • fluctuations in blood pressure;
  • insomnia.

People with cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and chronic fatigue may be particularly sensitive to such changes.

How to cope with a geomagnetic storm

Doctors recommend following these simple rules on such days:

Key tips:

  • drink more water;
  • avoid stress;
  • get plenty of sleep;
  • limit coffee and alcohol;
  • spend more time outdoors;
  • avoid overexerting yourself physically.

It’s also important to monitor your blood pressure and take any medications prescribed by your doctor if you have chronic conditions.

Are magnetic storms dangerous?

In most cases, magnetic storms do not pose a serious threat to healthy people, but they can cause temporary discomfort.

Experts advise paying closer attention to your well-being, especially on days of increased solar activity.
