Full audits of declarations: wife of Khmelnytskyi customs official ordered to pay over UAH 309 thousand in taxes

The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) and the State Tax Service (STS) continue to exchange information to ensure compliance with anti-corruption and tax laws, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
One of the main tools in this work is a full verification of the declarations of public officials and response to identified violations.
As part of such an audit of the declaration of one of the officials of the State Customs Service from Khmelnytsky region, the NACP found that his wife’s bank accounts received more than UAH 1.4 million from almost 800 people during the reporting period. At the same time, the declaration indicated only UAH 112 thousand of income from business activities.
At the NACP’s request, the woman explained that the UAH 112 thousand was her official income as an individual entrepreneur, as declared in her tax returns. However, such explanations did not cover the rest of the funds received, which gave grounds to suspect income concealment. The NACP reported these facts to the STS for verification.
The Tax Service confirmed that the declarant’s wife, as an individual entrepreneur, had violated tax laws by failing to declare part of her income, including from business activities, and by failing to make mandatory payments to the budget.
Based on the results of the unscheduled audit, the STS issued tax notices, which determined monetary liabilities in the amount of more than UAH 309 thousand. Of this amount, UAH 274 thousand are basic tax charges and over UAH 35.7 thousand are penalties. Thus, the amount of additional charges was almost three times higher than the officially declared income.
According to the NAPC, this case demonstrates the effectiveness of cooperation between the anti-corruption agency and the tax service, as the information obtained as a result of the audit allows both voluntary and compulsory collection of unpaid taxes to the budget.
