In Kyiv, members of an organised group that sold slimming pills containing psychotropic substances through an online store and social media were exposed. This was reported by [Kommersant] reports citing a post on the Telegram channel of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

During the pre-trial investigation, its employees found that a 25-year-old Kyiv resident organised and led a criminal group that sold diet pills containing the psychotropic substance sibutramine.

The group consisted of four members. The organiser of the group ensured the receipt of wholesale consignments of goods for their packaging and further sale, controlled direct sales and set work schedules and tasks for other members of the group. He also kept the “accounting” records.

Other members of the criminal group sold the diet pills through an online store, where they accepted orders online, and social media, sending goods to customers by post throughout Ukraine.

During the searches of the suspects’ homes, law enforcement officers seized more than 30,000 dangerous pills. Their total value is estimated at over UAH 3.6 million. The law enforcement also found a large amount of cash in hryvnias and foreign currency.

“The suspects have already been served a notice of suspicion. If their guilt is proved, the court may sentence the group members to up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property,” the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
