The “Affordable Medicines” program has been expanded: Ukrainians will now be able to receive an additional 37 medications free of charge

Ukraine has expanded its “Affordable Medicines” state reimbursement program. Thirty-seven new medications have been added to the list, which patients will be able to obtain for free or at a reduced cost using an electronic prescription. This was announced by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
Which medicines were added to the program
As explained by the Ministry of Health, the new drugs are intended for the treatment of the most common chronic diseases, including:
- cardiovascular diseases
- diabetes
- respiratory diseases.
The ministry noted:
“The ‘Affordable Medicines’ state reimbursement program is a program that allows patients to receive necessary medications free of charge or with a partial copayment using an electronic prescription. Starting in April, it is expanding: 37 new medications in various dosages have been added to the list.”
How many drugs are now in the program
Following the update, the “Affordable Medicines” list includes 748 items, among which are:
- 621 medications
- 59 types of insulin
- 32 combination drugs
- 36 medical devices.
Medical devices include, in particular, test strips for glucometers.

How much funding was allocated to the program
In 2026, funding for the program was increased to 8.7 billion UAH, which is 1.8 billion UAH more than the previous year.
Thanks to this, more patients will be able to receive the necessary medicines for free or at a significant discount.
How many Ukrainians have already benefited from the program
According to the Ministry of Health:
- since the beginning of 2026, over 1.5 million people have taken advantage of the program
- doctors have written over 3.5 million prescriptions
New medical programs in Ukraine
The Ministry of Health also noted that the “Health Screening 40” program, which provides free basic screenings, launched in 2026.
It is aimed at the early detection of:
- cardiovascular diseases
- diabetes
- mental disorders.
In addition, along with electronic prescriptions, Ukrainians now receive information about the cheapest generic versions of medications in the National Price Catalog.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the program’s main focus is combating cardiovascular diseases, which remain the leading cause of death in Ukraine.
Expanding the program will improve patients’ access to comprehensive treatment.
