Paris prosecutor Laure Becco condemned the premature disclosure of information about the arrests in the case of the Louvre Museum robbery by knowledgeable persons and said that this could only harm the investigation.
This is reported in a statement by the city prosecutor’s office on the social network X, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Becco confirmed that investigators made the arrests on the evening of October 25. One of the detainees was about to leave the country from Paris Roissy-Charles de Gaulle International Airport.
The city prosecutor also expressed her deep regret for the hasty disclosure of this information without taking into account the interests of the investigation. In her opinion, the incident could harm the investigation, which involves hundreds of investigators searching for jewelry and catching criminals.
Earlier, the French newspaper Le Figaro reported that police detained two suspects in the Louvre robbery case.
On the morning of October 19, the Louvre was attacked by robbers who entered the Apollo Gallery and stole nine pieces of jewelry. The crown of Empress Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III, has already been recovered; the piece was found broken in the street.
