Breakthrough north of Pokrovsk: what Syrsky told the European military

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold the initiative in certain areas and inflict significant losses on the enemy. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, announced the new results of counteroffensive actions during an online meeting of the EU Military Committee chaired by General Sean Clancy, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Difficult situation and massive Russian strikes
According to the Commander-in-Chief, the operational and strategic situation at the front remains difficult. Russia continues to target populated areas, energy facilities and civilian infrastructure.
Since the beginning of the full-scale aggression, Russia has launched more than 112,000 Shahed-type attack drones into Ukraine.
The main targets of these attacks have been residential areas, critical infrastructure and civilian institutions, resulting in the deaths of civilians, including children.
Counteroffensive in the Dobropole sector: 430 square kilometers liberated
Despite constant enemy pressure, Ukrainian forces were able to launch an active counteroffensive from late August to October.
In the Dobropil sector, Ukrainian troops conducted successful operations, during which they
- cut through the enemy’s offensive group,
- liberated over 430 square kilometers of territory north of Pokrovsk,
- eliminated or wounded more than 13,000 Russian soldiers.
According to Syrsky, these results have made an important contribution to stabilizing the situation in one of the hottest areas of the frontline.
Support from partners and the PURL initiative
The General thanked the European Union countries for their continued support of Ukraine and noted that the practical implementation of the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) initiative is critically important.
This program helps to:
- save lives of Ukrainian citizens,
- protect critical infrastructure,
- strengthen the Defense Forces on the contact line.
The importance of the EU MAM mission
Syrsky emphasized the role of the EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine (EUMAM), which was the first multinational European initiative of this scale to support Ukraine.
According to him, EUMAM provides high-quality training for Ukrainian military personnel and is an important element in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
Call for further unity of partners
The Commander-in-Chief thanked General Sean Clancy for his consistent support of Ukraine and emphasized that international unity remains the key to a just and lasting peace.
“Only a firm and consolidated position of the partners can force the aggressor to stop the war,” emphasized Syrskyi.

Fighting for Pokrovsk
As a reminder, the epicenter of the fighting in Donetsk region remains the Pokrovsk direction, where Russian troops are trying to surround the city from several directions and are deploying additional forces.
The occupiers took advantage of unfavorable weather conditions, including thick fog, to penetrate Pokrovsk, Donetsk region. Currently, there are over 300 invaders in the city.
Recently, Russian troops on the Selidove-Pokrovsk highway launched a massive assault on Pokrovsk with light vehicles. It was partially successful.
According to Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukrainian defenders continue to defend Pokrovsk. At the moment, there is no talk of Russian occupants’ control over the city or the operational encirclement of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
