Anti-tank weapons and ammunition: Ukraine to receive aid package from the US

The Pentagon has announced a new US aid package for Ukraine. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to the Associated Press.

US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin said on 2 July that the US would soon announce additional security assistance to Ukraine worth $2.3 billion, which will include anti-tank weapons, interceptors and ammunition for Patriot and other air defence systems.

Of the total, $150 million will be provided under the Presidential Decision to Authorise (PDA), with the remainder coming from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). The PDA allows the Pentagon to take weapons from its stockpile and send them to Ukraine more quickly; the USAI provides weapons under long-term contracts.

Austin’s announcement was made during a meeting with Ukrainian Defence Minister Umerov at the Pentagon and is a strong response to Kyiv’s request for help in fighting Russian forces.

“Together with some 50 allies and partners, we will continue to provide the critical capabilities Ukraine needs to repel Russian aggression today and deter Russian aggression tomorrow,” the Pentagon chief said.
