Border guards boast of refusing bribes worth almost a million hryvnias

Servicemen of the 7th Border Guard Carpathian Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine have demonstrated unwavering integrity by refusing to accept bribes in 213 cases since the beginning of 2025. The total amount of bribes offered amounted to almost UAH 1 million. This was reported by the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the State Border Guard Service, in July of this year alone, the amount of bribery attempts exceeded 85 thousand hryvnias. The money was offered both in national and foreign currency.

Who tried to bribe border guards
According to Valentyna Skred, assistant head of the detachment and head of the corruption prevention and detection department, the most common bribe takers were
- persons with forged documents;
- citizens without the necessary documents to cross the border;
- violators seeking to avoid responsibility.
Zero tolerance for corruption
The department claims that absolutely all cases of bribery attempts were properly documented in accordance with the established procedure. The information about the offenses has been forwarded to the relevant law enforcement agencies for further investigation.
“The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine consistently adheres to the principle of zero tolerance to corruption. No unlawful offer influences the decisions of our servicemen. And the consequence for a bribe taker is always the same – liability under the law,”
– emphasizes Valentyna Skred.
According to Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, offering, promising or giving an unlawful benefit to an official is a criminal offense.
As wrote, the NACP records an increase in the number of people convicted of corruption, but there is a nuance.
