Windows 10 support termination triggered an increase in Apple computer sales

The end of support for the Windows 10 operating system in October this year triggered a significant increase in sales of Apple personal computers. According to Counterpoint Research, this transition period proved to be extremely beneficial for the Cupertino-based company, whose shipments grew by 14.9% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2025. This was reported by Tom’s Hardware, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The overall PC market showed growth of 8.1% year-on-year, largely due to the need to update hardware for compatibility with Windows 11, as well as the accumulation of stocks by manufacturers amid potential import duties. The leader in shipment growth was Lenovo, which increased shipments by 17.4%, while Apple took the position of the closest pursuer with an increase of 14.9%. Other major players such as Asus (14%) and HP (10%) also showed positive dynamics, although Dell recorded a slight decrease in shipments by 0.9%.
A significant number of users who are unable to upgrade to Windows 11 due to the lack of necessary components on their computers, such as the TPM 2.0 chip, made an unobvious choice. Instead of buying a new PC for Windows 11, they preferred to switch to a Mac.
Interestingly, AI PCs have not yet become a major market driver, despite their announcement more than a year ago. Consumers continue to prefer devices with the necessary characteristics, such as more RAM or storage. Nevertheless, Counterpoint analysts predict an increase in the supply of AI computers in 2025 with the release of new chips from Qualcomm and Intel.
As a reminder, on October 14, 2025, support for Windows 10 will be discontinued.
