Avian influenza is spreading rapidly across Europe. Since August, 56 outbreaks of the disease have been detected in ten EU countries and the United Kingdom, the highest number of outbreaks at the beginning of the season in the last ten years.

This is reported by the French animal health authority ESA, Reuters reports, "Komersant Ukrainian".

Despite the high number of cases, the total number of cases remains lower than in 2022, when the EU experienced the largest bird flu crisis in history.

For comparison, last year there were 31 outbreaks of the disease, which is mostly spread by migratory wild birds, over the same period.

All of these cases in Europe show that the virus is far from extinct,” said Yann Nedelec, director of the French poultry industry group Anvol.

The World Organization for Animal Welfare reported that the first cases of bird flu this season were recorded in Slovakia and Belgium. In the latter country, it was ordered to keep all poultry indoors.

Two outbreaks were also detected in France, where the annual campaign to vaccinate ducks on farms has begun. An increase in bird flu cases has also been reported in Spain, Germany and Poland, the leading poultry producer in the EU.
