Putin is preparing a map of Donetsk region with the routes of the DRG for Trump – CPD

15 August 16:36

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is planning to present a map of the Donetsk region with the routes of Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups (SRGs) at a meeting with Donald Trump. The goal is to convince the United States of the Russian army’s ability to make a breakthrough at the front.
This was reported by the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Kovalenko, "Komersant Ukrainian".

What exactly is the Kremlin planning?

  • The map was prepared by Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov.
  • The Kremlin wants to create the impression that the Russian army is in control of the situation in Donetsk region and is able to advance quickly.
  • In fact, according to Kovalenko, the real capabilities of the Russian army are greatly exaggerated:
  • The troops have not occupied Pokrovsk and Kostyantynivka.
  • There is no way to quickly reach Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.

Infiltration tactics

  • The Russians use small groups of 3-5 people who penetrate settlements but do not gain a foothold in the territory.
  • According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, subversive groups have infiltrated Vesele, Vile, Rubizhne, and Kucheriv Yar – some of them have already been destroyed, and the rest are “in the process of being destroyed.”

What is currently known about the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin:

Main details of the summit

  • Date and venue: The summit took place on August 15, 2025, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, and is the highest-level negotiation event between the United States and Russia since 2021.
  • The format of the meeting: First, one-on-one talks without the presence of other leaders, followed by working talks with delegations and a joint press conference.
  • Topics of the talks: The main topics are the end of the war in Ukraine, security issues, arms control, and strengthening economic cooperation.
  • Context and expectations: Trump said he hoped the meeting would push Putin to end the war and warned of “serious consequences” if he did not.
  • Composition of the delegations: Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, officials from the financial and defense sectors. The United States was represented by Trump’s key advisers and his team.

Political reaction

  • Ukraine and the EU: Ukraine was not invited. Zelenskyy and European leaders reiterated that they would not recognize any territorial concessions. “Talks about us, without us, will not work,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
  • Skeptical attitude: Many politicians criticize the summit as symbolic and risky, with no guarantees for Ukraine and a possible strengthening of Russia’s position.

Generalization

  • The Trump-Putin summit in Alaska is a historic moment in US-Russian relations.
  • The priority is to clarify the possibilities of reaching a truce, although reservations remain.
  • Ukraine is not officially represented and insists on being included in peacebuilding procedures.
  • The actual results remain uncertain and subject to international scrutiny.
