Putin hopes to negotiate arms control with Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin gathered his inner circle today to tell them what he expects from his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

As it turned out, Putin is interested in American strategic offensive weapons and control over them.

“The current US administration is making sufficiently energetic and sincere efforts to stop the fighting, end the crisis and reach agreements that are of interest to all parties involved in the conflict. To create long-term conditions for peace between our countries, in Europe, and in the world. If we reach agreements on strategic offensive arms control as the next step,”

– the Russian dictator said.

In what format will Trump’s meeting with Putin take place?

According to Russian sources, U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet on August 15 in Anchorage, Alaska. Putin’s adviser Yuri Ushakov said that the talks will begin at 11:30 local time (22:30 Kyiv time).

According to Ushakov, the main topic of the talks will be to discuss the situation around the Russian-Ukrainian war. The Russian side says that preparations for the meeting are almost complete and the program has already been agreed upon.

It is planned that the two leaders will first have a private conversation, and then delegations will join the talks. Putin will be accompanied by a five-person representative group: Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Head of the Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev, and Yuri Ushakov himself.

After the talks, a joint press conference with the two leaders is planned.
