Putin offers limited truce with Ukraine before meeting with Trump

Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin has proposed a limited ceasefire with Ukraine ahead of a summit with US President Donald Trump.
This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to The Economist.
According to the newspaper, the limited ceasefire would cover air and sea. According to sources, an even more dramatic breakthrough is possible when a broader package of agreements is developed. However, in the end, it will look like a war freeze.
At the same time, The Economist writes that the positions of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States are still very different, and there are doubts about Putin’s true intentions.
The newspaper also writes that the form of the peace agreement that the three countries are working on is difficult to determine.
“There appear to be several new overlapping texts, which sources describe as parallel efforts,” the publication says.
In addition, The Economist described the details of the meeting between Trump’s special counsel Steve Witkoff and Putin.
During the three-hour conversation, Vitkoff offered Putin a carrot of Russia’s reintegration into the global economy, including the lifting of sanctions and the removal of restrictions on hydrocarbon trade.
At that point, Putin is believed to have offered to end the fighting if Ukraine voluntarily withdrew from Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
As a reminder, US President Donald Trump announced that he would meet with Putin in Alaska on August 15. It is known that the war in Ukraine and the issue of its end will be among the topics discussed.
Just a few hours before the announcement, he told reporters that a “territory swap” between Ukraine and Russia was possible.
