Putin is going to Beijing: China supports ‘comprehensive partnership’ with Russia

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is preparing for a visit to Beijing. This was stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry after a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to Russian diplomats, during the talks, Xi reaffirmed his commitment to further build a comprehensive and strategic partnership with Russia, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Lavrov met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the Chinese city of Tianjin.

Today, July 15, a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is taking place in Tianjin, and the Chinese leader spoke with all the foreign ministers participating in the event, and then separately talked with the Russian delegation.

During his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Lavrov conveyed to him the wishes of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“Lavrov conveyed to the Chinese leader a friendly greeting and best wishes from Russian President Vladimir Putin,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website.

It is noted that Lavrov discussed with the Chinese leader the preparation of the Russian president’s visit to China to participate in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Victory over militaristic Japan, as well as high-level visits.

In addition, he highly welcomed Putin’s upcoming visit to China.

“Xi Jinping welcomed the upcoming visit of the Russian President to China, praised the state of Russian-Chinese relations and reaffirmed the focus on further building a comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation with Russia. The Russian side also touched upon some topical issues on the international and regional agenda,” Russian media reported.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova posted photos on her Telegram channel of the Chinese leader’s reception of Russian guests. One of them shows Lavrov and Xi Jinping shaking hands.

Last Sunday, July 13, Lavrov met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing.
