Dust from the Sahara will pass along with the heat – weather forecaster

Over the next two days, most regions of Ukraine are expected to experience rains that will bring down the dust brought here by the wind from the Sahara. This was stated in an exclusive commentary to Komersant ukrainskyi this in an exclusive interview with Kommersant Ukrainian.
According to her, the heat and dust in Ukraine are the consequences of the same air movement from northern Africa. However, starting today, the direction of air flows will change – they will come from the west and northwest.
“Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, the flows will change, coming from the west and northwest. It will be cooler, it will rain and the situation will improve. In the western regions, changes will begin by the end of the day, and over the next few days the situation will change in the rest of Ukraine. It will rain in most regions,”

Scientists, including domestic forecasters, emphasise that the dust from the Sahara that came to Ukraine is not a dust storm, as the speed of the air masses does not allow us to talk about it.
What is a dust storm?
A duststorm is an atmospheric phenomenon of wind transport of large amounts of dust, sand, soil particles, etc. Dust storms can reach heights of several metres to several kilometres, and line of sight at their epicentre can be reduced to several tens of metres. If a dust storm is formed over sandy soils, it is called a sand storm
A dust storm is formed when winds of 10 m/s or more blow over dry and sparsely vegetated soil. It lifts soil particles into the air and carries them over long distances. Such storms are most common in deserts and semi-deserts, arable steppes, etc. On the planet, they are common in the regions of North Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and China. Dust storms can sometimes travel thousands of kilometres.
The frequency of dust storms has increased 10-fold since the 1950s. There are regions that suffer from this phenomenon more than others. For example, while in the 1960s Mauritania used to experience two such storms a year, since 2007 there have been about 80 per year.
