US President Donald Trump has officially confirmed that he has invited Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to become a member of the “Peace Council” for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Donald Trump’s remarks during a briefing in Florida and Reuters.
According to the publication, the US president answered “yes” when asked if he had sent this invitation to Putin.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the proposal had been received through diplomatic channels and that Russia plans to clarify the details of the initiative.
On January 15, Donald Trump officially presented the structure of the “Peace Council,” which will be responsible for post-war management of the Gaza Strip. The body provides for both temporary participation and the possibility of obtaining a permanent seat for a financial contribution of $1 billion.
According to the initiative’s charter, the standard term of membership in the Council is three years. However, participating countries have the option of remaining in the body indefinitely.
According to Bloomberg, Donald Trump has sent official invitations to the leaders of 49 countries and the European Commission.
In addition to Western allies, the list includes Ukraine and Russia. Although China was not listed in the initial registries, Beijing has officially confirmed receipt of the invitation.
The US president plans to hold a ceremony to sign the Council’s charter in Davos on Thursday, January 22.
The document stipulates that the standard term of membership is three years. However, countries that contribute more than $1 billion in cash for the reconstruction of Gaza during the first year will be entitled to a permanent seat on the body.
