On 18 July, the Verkhovna Rada passed a bill to increase the excise tax on fuel. This was announced by MP Oleksiy Honcharenko, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

MPs passed Bill No. 11256-2 on raising the excise tax on fuel and supported amendment No. 267 on gas.

“It’s just a shame! The servants pushed through the adoption of the draft law No. 11256-2 on raising the excise tax on fuel in the second reading,”

– honcharenko said.

Draft law No. 11256-2 provides for a gradual increase in excise taxes on various types of fuel by 1 January 2028. The transitional phase is to start on 1 September 2024.

How fuel prices will rise

According to the draft law, starting from 1 September, the excise tax will increase

  • by 14%, to €242.6/1000 litres of petrol
  • by 27%, to €177.6/1000 litres of diesel fuel
  • three times, to €165/1000 litres of autogas.

Currently, the excise tax rate for petrol is €213.5 per 1,000 litres, for diesel – €139.5, and for autogas – €52.

According to the authors of the law, the increased excise tax will lead to a rise in the price of petrol at petrol stations by UAH 1.50 per litre, diesel by UAH 1.95, and autogas by UAH 5.8 per litre.

Energy expert Oleksandr Sirenko says that if the tax is raised, liquefied gas in Ukraine will become more expensive than in the EU as early as July.
