The Rada banned advertising on drug packaging: why did it happen?

Advertising on drug packaging has been banned in Ukraine. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
The bill in question is draft law No11172which was voted for by members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on 21 August. A total of 318 MPs voted in favour. Two MPs abstained from voting.
The draft law was initiated by a group of MPs led by Mykhailo Radutskyi.
The parliamentarians explain that the purpose of the draft law is to harmonise the provisions of Ukrainian legislation with the relevant provisions of European Union law in the field of medicines circulation. After all, in Ukraine, there are numerous cases of manufacturers using information in the labelling of medicines that is not required by law, as well as the use of unsubstantiated claims about the benefits of a particular medicinal product compared to similar medicines from another manufacturer. This misleads consumers.
Therefore, the authors of the document proposed to prohibit any inscriptions and illustrations on drug packaging that promote the drug on the market, in particular, the formation of an opinion about the exclusivity and superiority of the drug compared to the same drug from another manufacturer.
“The adoption of the draft law will help to improve the protection of the rights of consumers of medicines, strengthen the responsibility of manufacturers and sellers of medicines, and increase the state-guaranteed protection of competition in business,” the explanatory note to the draft law says.
