With its December 13 attack on the energy sector, Russia tried to separate the energy systems of Ukraine and Europe. This statement was made by Yuriy Boyko, a member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrenergo, at a briefing on December 16, [ komersant] reports.

According to him, on December 13, the Russian occupiers targeted the network infrastructure involved in export-import operations between the systems of Ukraine and neighboring European countries.

“The attack was on the network infrastructure directly involved in export-import operations between Ukraine and its European neighbors. This was done in order to minimize the possibility of attracting imports, and ideally to disconnect the Ukrainian system from the European one,” Boyko said.

The member of Ukrenergo’s Supervisory Board also reassured Ukrainians and promised them that the blackout schedules would “improve” in the near future.
