5 August 2024 23:47

A series of explosions occurred in Kyiv late in the evening on 5 August during an air raid alert, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

The explosions in the capital took place around 23:05. There were several of them – two at first, and at least four more in a few minutes.

The Air Force warned of the threat of ballistic missiles from the north.

At 23:05, the Air Force reported on Telegram about a group of “shaheds” in Chernihiv region, and at 23:07 about high-speed targets in Kyiv and Poltava regions.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that air defence was operating in the city. He urged Kyiv residents not to leave their shelters until the alarm goes off.

The air attack is being repelled in the region, where air defence forces are also operating. This was stated by the Kyiv Regional Military Administration (KOVA).

“Residents of the Kyiv region! There is a missile attack! Stay in shelters until the air raid warning is cancelled,” the KOVA called.

According to monitoring channels, ballistic weapons were used from the Voronezh region. Preliminary, it could have been Iskander-M or North Korean KN-23 missiles.

“Up to 6 missiles were launched at Kyiv. Preliminarily, Iskander-M/KN-23,” monitoring channels report.

Local authorities have not officially confirmed this.
