Famous writer Dmitry Kapranov died suddenly: what is known

Today, on 16 April, the famous Ukrainian writer, publisher, publicist, blogger and public figure Dmytro Kapranov passed away. This was reported on Facebook by the Kapranov brothers, Komersant ukrainskyi
reports.
“Dmytro died suddenly this morning. I will write tomorrow about the time and place of the funeral. Everything else is cancelled, sorry,”
– the post reads.
The cause of Dmytro Kapranov’s death is currently unknown.
The family said that the place and time of the funeral would be announced tomorrow.
The upcoming events that were planned with the Kapranov brothers have been cancelled.
What Dmitry Kapranov is known for
Dmitry Kapranov was born in Dubossary, Moldova. He spent his childhood in Ochakiv, Mykolaiv region, where he graduated from high school in 1984. He later moved to Moscow with his brother, but returned to Ukraine before the full-scale invasion.
In the late 1990s, the Kapranov brothers published a collection of fairy tales called Tales of Grandfather Panas.
In 1999, the Kapranovs organised the first Ukrainian competition for short fiction, the Golden Babai, and Vasyl Shklyar’s novel The Key won. In 2000, the Kapranovs founded the Green Dog Publishing House.
The first book was Leonid Kononovych’s novel I, Zombie. “Zelenyi Pis publishes contemporary fiction, including for children.
on 4 February 2004, the Kapranov brothers burned a manuscript of their new novel near the Cabinet of Ministers building in protest against the new budget of Ukraine, which they believed would stop publishing books. The budget was later amended.
In 2011, brothers Vitaliy and Dmytro Kapranov decided to join the Stepan Bandera nationalist organisation Tryzub in protest against the new budget of Ukraine. The Kapranov brothers also took the name of Stepan Bandera to protest against the ruling regime.
In September 2019, the Kapranov brothers founded the Taras Shevchenko YouTube channel about the history of Ukraine. In the most popular video, the brothers tell the history of Ukraine in 10 minutes, with 3.2 million views.
Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Kapranov brothers have been fighting against the Russians in Kyiv in the Azov regiment.
