Orban will visit Moscow today: what will he talk about with Putin?

28 November 09:49

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban intends to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on Friday, November 28, in Moscow. This was reported by Reuters, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the report, the purpose of the meeting will be to ensure the continuation of gas and oil supplies from Russia to Hungary. In addition, the settlement of the war in Ukraine will also be one of the issues that the parties will discuss during the meeting.

By the way, on November 25, journalist of the Hungarian edition of Direkt36 Sabolcs Panyi reported that Orban plans to visit Moscow on November 28 to meet with Putin.

At the same time, the Kremlin confirmed Reuters’ information and noted that the meeting would take place.

This was stated by the Russian dictator’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov in a comment to Russian propaganda media.

“Yes, we can confirm this,” he said, answering a journalist’s question.

Political context

According to media sources, Orban’s visit to Russia may be presented as an attempt to revive the idea of a short-term “peace summit” in Budapest with the participation of Trump and Putin.

The day before, Vladimir Putin said that Moscow and Budapest were discussing a possible visit by the Hungarian prime minister.

We would like to remind you that Viktor Orban’s position on the termination of financial support for Ukraine in the EU did not come as a surprise, and, answering journalists, Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka emphasized that such statements by Budapest had long been predicted, and therefore are perceived as part of the usual rhetoric that does not change the overall approach to cooperation with European partners.

It is worth noting that Viktor Orban, who maintains a pro-Russian line, insists that the EU support the ultimatum “peace plan” for Ukraine imposed by the United States, while threatening to block the entire package of European support for Kyiv.
