Gesture revolution: new Meta glasses recognize finger movements

Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a new model of Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses, Meta’s most advanced AI glasses to date with a full-color high-resolution display. The main feature of the new product is integration with the Meta Neural Band, a revolutionary EMG bracelet that converts muscle signals into commands for glasses, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
New features of the glasses
The new features include visual responses from Meta AI with step-by-step instructions, private viewing of messages from WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, and real-time video calls. The glasses also support pedestrian navigation with visual maps and turn-by-turn directions.
Other useful features include live subtitles and real-time translation of selected languages, which helps overcome language barriers. Users can also see information about the music they are listening to and control playback with gestures.
The display is placed to the side of the field of view so as not to obstruct the view and is activated only when necessary. Users can quickly check notifications, view photos, get translations, and interact with Meta AI – all without having to take out their phone.

AI bracelet
The key innovation of the product is the electromyography (EMG) technology that reads muscle activity signals via a wristband. This allows users to control glasses with barely noticeable finger movements – swiping, clicking, and even writing messages without touching the glasses or phone.
Meta Neural Band was developed over four years with the participation of nearly 200 thousand research participants. The bracelet works out of the box for almost anyone, despite individual differences in muscle structure. It can detect movements even before they become visually noticeable.

The bracelet can withstand up to 18 hours of use, has an IPX7 waterproof rating, and is made of Vectran, the same material used for the landing cushions of the Mars rover. The material is as strong as steel when stretched, but flexible enough to wear comfortably.
Market entry
Meta Ray-Ban Display will cost from $799, including glasses and Meta Neural Band. Sales will start on September 30 in the US. The glasses have a battery for 6 hours of mixed use and up to 30 hours of total time with a charging case.
Expansion to Canada, France, Italy, and the UK is planned for early 2026. The glasses are available in two colors, black and sand, with Transitions lenses for indoor and outdoor use.
This product is part of Meta’s strategy to create a new human-centered computing platform. The company divides its AI glasses into three categories: camera AI glasses, display AI glasses (a new category), and future AR glasses with a holographic display like the Orion prototype.
