The Intercity train service between Kyiv and Kharkiv will be suspended until the end of March: what we know

18 March 12:14

Ukrzaliznytsia has temporarily suspended direct Intercity train service between Kyiv and Kharkiv.

This is stated in a press release from Ukrzaliznytsia, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

“Currently, there is a temporary restriction on Intercity train service on the section to Poltava with connecting routes to Kharkiv in sleeper cars,” the Ukrzaliznytsia statement reads.

The company noted that in recent weeks, due to power supply restrictions, trains between Kharkiv and Poltava have been running with backup diesel locomotives, resulting in delays of up to 3 hours.

On some days, trains arrived after curfew had already begun.

Restoration work is currently underway, along with enhanced security measures to restore full Intercity train service.

It is planned that Intercity service to Kharkiv will resume by the end of March.

According to EP, passengers who purchased a ticket for the Kyiv-Kharkiv Intercity received a letter stating that “Due to the impact of hostilities, Intercity train No. 722 Kyiv–Kharkiv is temporarily running to Poltava-Pivdenna station.”

“There is no need to exchange your tickets—your ticket remains valid. The train crew and station staff will provide all necessary information and assist you during the transfer.

We understand that this may cause some inconvenience, but these changes are necessary and have been implemented to ensure stable train operations,” the letter stated.

“Please be aware of possible minor delays in the train’s arrival at the final station; travel through the damaged section is subject to significant speed restrictions,” noted the letter from Ukrzaliznytsia.
