In the Kharkiv region, Russian drones attacked a passenger train, resulting in deaths and injuries. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the attack under the article on war crimes resulting in the death of people. This was reported by the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to law enforcement agencies, under the procedural guidance of the Izyum District Prosecutor’s Office, criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
What is known about the attack
According to the investigation, on January 27, near the village of Yazykovo in the Barvinkove territorial community, Russian troops attacked a passenger train traveling from Chop to Kharkiv to Barvinkove.
Two hits were recorded near the train and one directly on the carriage, causing a fire. At the time of the strike, there were more than 155 passengers on the train.

Casualties
During the inspection of the scene, fragments of five bodies were found. The final identification of the victims will only be possible after DNA testing.
A man and a woman also sought medical attention.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the attack on the civilian train. He stressed that the attack has all the hallmarks of terrorism and cannot be justified on military grounds.
“Russia attacked a passenger train in the Kharkiv region today with strike drones. In any country, a drone strike on a civilian train would be viewed in the same way — exclusively as terrorism. There is and cannot be any military objective in destroying civilians in a train carriage. In particular, there were more than 200 people on that train,” the president said.
There were 18 people in the carriage that was hit by one of the Russian drones.
“In total, four people are known to have died as a result of this strike by three drones. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. Rescuers are still searching for four more people, and two are injured,” the President said.
The head of state stressed that Russia must be held responsible not only for specific strikes, but also for the very possibility of carrying out terrorism.
“Russia must be held accountable for what it does. They are investing in the progress of terror. And it is our job to ensure progress in protecting life. This is possible thanks to pressure on Russia, punishment for crimes, and support for Ukraine,” Zelensky emphasized.
Documenting war crimes
Prosecutors, together with police investigators, are documenting yet another war crime committed by servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation against the civilian population.
Law enforcement officials emphasize that the information is being verified and will be updated.
