On the night of October 7, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Poltava and Sumy regions, targeting energy and transportation facilities. This was reported by Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“The enemy’s goal is obvious – Russia is trying to use cold and darkness as a weapon,” the official emphasized.

According to him, in Poltava, the strikes hit a locomotive depot, traction substations, a power supply line, as well as administrative and storage facilities.

The rolling stock of the railroad was damaged. Fires broke out and were quickly extinguished.

The attack temporarily delayed the Kharkiv-Lviv, Lviv-Kharkiv, and Kramatorsk-Lviv trains, but traffic has now been fully restored.

A power facility was also damaged, leaving more than a thousand households in Poltava and surrounding villages without electricity.

A similar situation was reported in Sumy: part of the city was without electricity and several residential buildings were damaged.

“Response teams are working on the ground. Experts are inspecting the areas, restoring power supply and helping people. Railway traffic has been stabilized and critical infrastructure is gradually coming back online,” summarized Kuleba.
