Rising prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine: what caused the new price increase

2 November 22:12

The season for selling cucumbers from local greenhouses in Ukraine is coming to an end, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. The project’s analysts emphasize that Ukrainian producers manage to raise prices for these products almost every day until the end of the season, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Today, producers are ready to ship greenhouse cucumbers from 100 to 120 UAH/kg ($2.38-2.86/kg), depending on the quality and volume of the offered batches of vegetables, which is on average 12% more expensive than a week earlier.

The project experts explain the latest price increase in this segment by a significant reduction in the supply of cucumbers from local farms. To date, many factories have already announced the actual end of the sales season, while other farms offer this product only in small batches. Meanwhile, the demand for these vegetables in the domestic market of Ukraine remains quite high, which provokes a rapid rise in prices.

We would like to add that in the current circumstances, Ukrainian greenhouses are able to sell cucumbers at an average price 12% higher than in the same period of the previous year. At the same time, market players do not rule out the possibility that positive price trends in this segment will continue in the future.
