NSDC: mobile communication will be more stable during power outages

27 October 22:33

Ukraine will have more mobile towers with emergency power supply. This decision was made amid an increase in the number of Russian attacks and power outages, which often cause cellular service to be cut off. This was reported by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

“The meeting raised the issues of Russian attacks on energy facilities and the stability of mobile communications in the face of blackouts. We discussed defense priorities and specific areas of cooperation with partners to strengthen the air defense system,” he said.

The decision to increase the number of base stations with emergency power supply and redistribute backup power sources with a focus on the frontline areas was supported.

Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian regulator of electronic communications, radio frequencies and postal services, Lilia Malen, said that mobile communication towers cannot operate without power for a long time. She noted that mobile communication during blackouts should be considered a “temporary opportunity.” The official also advised Ukrainians to use fixed-line internet, which is a more reliable option.

As a reminder, tomorrow, October 28, measures to limit electricity consumption will be reintroduced in some regions of Ukraine as a result of Russia’s ongoing massive missile and drone attacks on energy facilities.
